The YW Strive workforce development program of the YWCA of Greater Green Bay is focused on empowering women by offering educational workshops and providing referrals to community resources that can lead each participant towards economic advancement and long-term self-sufficiency. 

Objectives

  • To develop a plan to obtain, to keep, and/or to pursue advancement in employment.
  • To gain confidence.
  • To identify personal and employment barriers.
  • To develop the habits and skills needed to meet your personal and employment goals. 
  • To identify resources in the community to help you meet your needs and goals.
  • To learn what it means to be empowered.

2022 Sessions

In 2022, there will be 6 educational sessions offered throughout the year. The sessions will be 4-10 weeks in length. The session dates are:

  • Spring 1 Session: January 31-April 2 (9 weeks)   (Session begins on February 1, 2022)

Topics: Defining Women’s Empowerment  – weekly workshops include empowerment and growth mindset, acknowledging barriers, breaking gender stereotypes, understanding your values, building healthy relationships, respecting boundaries, creating your support system, sharing your stories, and mindful self-compassion.

  • Spring 2 Session: April 4-June 8 (8 weeks)

Topics: Intro. to resume building, job searching, and mock interviewing – check back frequently for more details on subjects to be covered during this session.

  • Summer 1 Session: June 13-July 23 (5 weeks)

Topics: Professional skills, soft skills, professional attire, and dress codes – check back frequently for more details on subjects to be covered during this session.

  • Summer 2 Session: July 25-August 27 (4 weeks)

Topic: Basic computer skills – check back frequently for more details on subjects to be covered during this session.

  • Fall Session: September 5-November 12 (10 weeks)

Topics: Intro. to budgeting and financial advising – check back frequently for more details on subjects to be covered during this session.

  • Winter Session: November 14-February 4, 2023 (10 weeks)

Topic: Company culture, boundaries and causes of burnout – check back frequently for more details on subjects to be covered during this session.

Session/Workshop Details

Length of each weekly workshop during a session: 90 minutes. To obtain the most benefit from the sessions, you are encouraged to attend every weekly workshop during a session.

Time of day:  Tuesdays from 10:00AM – 11:30AM OR Thursdays from 5:00PM –- 6:30PM (You only need need to attend one workshop per week)

Where: Rebecca Chernick Innovation Lab – second floor of the YWCA building

Cost: FREE

Minimum/Maximum number of participants for each session: 10 – 15

Eligibility for program

  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Must be a resident of Wisconsin
  • Basic English skills are preferred

On Site Childcare Available During Workshops

Please inform Anne Achter at the time you register for a session of your need for child care services. Include the name and age of each child needing care. There is no cost for the on site child care service while you are participating in a session/workshop.
