Week Without Violence is part of a global movement to end violence against women and girls. YWCA Greater Green Bay is committed to preventing gender based violence in our community, and we invite you to join us. From October 18th through the 23rd, learn more about the YWCA and everything we do to help our women and families thrive. Most events on this schedule will occur in-person (with some available virtually) and are free to attend — no membership required. Learn more about what we do every day, and help us work toward a future without gender based violence.
Have an Impact
Week Without Violence is made possible through a generous matching gift from Thrivent. If you give during the month of October, you will double your donation and have twice the impact on the lives of the women and families we serve. Don’t miss this unique opportunity to partner with Thrivent and the YWCA to promote a future without gender based violence.
Monday – Oct 18
Join State Representative Kristina Shelton for an open format discussion about her experiences as a woman running for and being elected to public office, as well as topics relating to social justice, activism, and Wisconsin politics. Come with your questions ready – whether you’re considering running for office, or just want to talk about building your community, this is a great space for a candid conversation with your state legislator about what matters to you!
This event will be both available in person and virtually via Facebook livestream. Please register to reserve your spot if you plan to attend in person. Interaction and ability to ask questions via livestream may be limited, but feel free to send us a message if you have a question or topic you would like addressed even if you won’t be able to view the stream live!
Reading to children at a young age enriches their understanding of the world around them, enhances cognitive development and helps them gain the language they need to express themselves socially, academically and creatively. By reading to our children, we prepare them for future success, while building a foundation of empathy for others.
Community leaders including Alex Tran (Executive Board Director, AAPI Caucus of Wisconsin), Green Bay Mayor Eric Genrich, Kelli Strickland (Executive and Artistic Director, Weidner Center for the Performing Arts), and Amy Schaeuble (Executive Director, YWCA Greater Green Bay) will spend time reading to our childcare students throughout the week. Families not enrolled in the YWCA childcare program are invited to attend each reading virtually via Facebook livestream.
Thank you to our partners at Brown County Library for providing all of the children’s books for this series!

In this gently-paced approach to yoga, poses are held for a longer period of time in a relaxed manner. Yin Yoga targets bones, joints, and connective tissue and is ideal for putting participants in tune with their minds and bodies, while helping overcome the stress of past experiences. There’s even a little chocolate at the end!
This class runs regularly at YWCA Greater Green Bay and is available free to the public during Week Without Violence. Capacity is limited, please register online to reserve your spot.

This month YWomen Read will be discussing “Once I Was You – A Memoir of Love and Hate in a Torn America” by Maria Hinojosa. The book “…offers a personal and illuminating account of how the rhetoric around immigration has not only long informed American attitudes toward outsiders, but also sanctioned willful negligence and profiteering at the expense of our country’s most vulnerable populations.” (From the Publisher) Join us virtually and be prepared to discuss the first half of the book. Please register for free to get access to the meeting and find discussion questions as well as more information about the series here. (Content warning, this book discusses violence and sexual assault)

After a week of learning, growth, and work, it is important to take time to care for your own physical, social, and emotional needs. Self-care looks different for each of us, but our Women’s Empowerment Center has put together a thoughtful list with some fun ideas on where to start.
If you’re active on social media, please let us know what you do today, and tag us in your post!
