Women's Career Closet
· Established in 1993, the Women’s Career Closet provides free, work-appropriate clothing to area women. Whether preparing for an interview or building a wardrobe for an existing job, women may visit the Women’s Career Closet up to 4 times per calendar year. There are approximately 2,000 visits to the Women’s Career Closet each year.
Who is eligible to visit the Women’s Career Closet?
The Women’s Career Closet is designed to serve women 18 years of age or older who are interviewing, building a wardrobe for an existing job, or in need of clothing for court appointments. Generous donations from local individuals and organizations make this possible. Women who are not employed and not seeking employment are encouraged to visit local thrift stores such as: Manna for Life, St. Vincent de Paul, Salvation Army, Goodwill, and De Pere Christian Outreach, where they will find more casual and sporty apparel items.
What type of apparel does the Women’s Career Closet carry?
The Women’s Career Closet carries primarily business casual and professional clothing (tops, pants, suits, dresses, coats, shoes/boots, gloves, scarves, belts, jewelry). Handbags are available on a limited basis for an interview or new job. Dressier items are available for special occasions. Scrubs may be selected twice a year if required for an interview or a job. Items that do not meet the Women’s Career Closet criteria are re-donated to other non-profit organizations in the greater Green Bay area. Some high-end fashion items may be consigned at local resale shops with the proceeds reinvested into the Women’s Career Closet operation.
What are the WCC hours? Tuesdays 1—4 pm Wednesdays 2—5 pm Thursdays 3—6 pm
Registration closes one-half hour prior to the end of each shift; guests must arrive by that time to be served. Special group appointments are available for those participating in work readiness or customer service programs. The YWCA is closed on most major holidays, and the Women’s Career Closet is also closed the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and for two weeks around the Christmas and New Year’s holidays.
How often is a guest allowed to visit the Women’s Career Closet?
Guests may visit the Women’s Career Closet anytime during regular hours up to 4 times per calendar year.
Are guests required to bring anything with them?
Guests are required to provide proof of Wisconsin residency at each visit—ID, letter, or bill. If a guest has an upcoming interview, it is helpful to bring a letter providing the details of the interview—date, location, etc.
Where is the Women’s Career Closet?
The Women’s Career Closet is located in the Women’s Empowerment Center on the 2nd floor of the YWCA. Use the Stuart Street entrance (corner of Stuart & Madison) and take the elevator or stairs to the 2nd floor.
When may donations for the Women’s Career Closet be dropped off ?
Donations may be dropped off at the Member Services desk anytime the YWCA is open.
Donation receipts for tax purposes are provided.
